Gege Hirst

‘“Still Held” reflects on memory as something both fragile and enduring. The painting emerged from thoughts of family, homeland and the emotional weight of separation, where people and places begin to exist more as sensation than fixed image. The softened figure appears suspended between presence and disappearance, echoing the fragmented and shifting nature of memory itself. Through layered colour, obscured form and disrupted space, the work explores how identity can become shaped as much by absence as by presence. Moments, relationships and places may fade or distort over time yet remain emotionally vivid beneath the surface.’
