Like veterans who found peace and reconciliation beyond horror and conflict, his blindness strips away distraction. Just as the war forced humanity to confront raw, essential existence, Borges’s “darkness” reveals inner vision, memory, and timeless meaning. Both experiences reject superficial hope and optimism; one through catastrophe, the other through age and loss.’
