‘Shepherd and Neame brewery remains an intrinsic part of the town of Faversham and enshrines 

so much of the history of the town. S&N's buildings and their pubs inform the character and 

identity of the town. The other historic activity which defines Favershams history is that of 

making gunpowder! Unlikely bedfellows indeed, yet doubtless mutually dependent. The timeless 

‘Aladin’ like character emerging from the steam above S&N's wonderful buildings represents 

every grateful labourer enjoying the reward for his work. Our personal and collective memories 

are tied in with the spaces and places we occupy. Their history becomes our reality. ’
