Monica Martinez
Living with alexithymia and ADHD, I process internal emotions through external atmospheres. I notice clouds, light, weather, and shifting horizons first, recognising the inner state they held only much later. Painting is my tool for retrieval, allowing me to return to these elusive moments, slow them down, and translate them into visual form. My creative process reflects this fractured internal landscape. Through heavily layered surfaces, disrupted horizons, and unstable fields of colour, I reconstruct the raw sensation of an experience rather than simply the location. These seascapes and skyscapes serve as fluid emotional spaces; with them, I hope viewers can feel the deeper meaning, completing the story through what is remembered, misremembered and felt again.
We are delighted to have Monica as part of our Contemporary Kent Artists exhibition at The Horsebridge Arts Gallery the 7th - 19th of October 2026.
