Jack Hanson

‘We are shaped by our memories, and our memories become part of our history. This idea is central to my practice. I use stone because it carries its own history, having been formed over vast periods of time, while also being deeply connected to human history and civilisation. It is a material that has been used by people for thousands of years, giving it a sense of permanence and accumulated experience.

I use these qualities of stone to explore emotion, memory and the passage of time within my sculptures. By working with a material that already holds its own history, I aim to create a connection between the physical qualities of the stone and the emotional experiences expressed through the work.’
